The City of Mbombela Council has appointed Mr Wiseman Khumalo as the Municipal Manager on a two year performance based contract from 1 October 2019 to 30 September 2021. His appointment was confirmed during a Special Council Meeting held on Thursday, 26 September 2019.
The Municipal Manager assumed his duties on Tuesday 1st October 2019 and has already met with his management team to assure them of his commitment to teamwork and also appealed for their support henceforth.
Mr. Wiseman Khumalo joined the City of Mbombela as Acting Chief Financial Officer from 1st July 2017, appointed by the MEC of COGTA in terms of Section 54a (6) (a) of the Municipal Systems Act, Act 32 of 2000.
He was later appointed by City of Mbombela Council as Chief Financial Officer on a 5 year performance based contract from September 2018 due to his ability to collectively work towards the financial turnaround of the municipality.
He holds a Bachelor of Accounting Science (B. Compt) degree from the University of the North (now Limpopo) and is an Associate member of IMFO (CIGFARO). He has over 15 years working experience in local government having occupied various positions including Head of Internal Audit and CFO positions.
Prior to joining the City of Mbombela, he held a position of CFO at Ehlanzeni District Municipality from 2009 where he attained eight consecutive clean audits since 2009/10 financial year. He also served as Audit Committee Chairperson for two municipalities.
Council also approved the appointment of the Deputy Chief Financial Officer, Ms Zanele Malaza to be Acting Chief Financial Officer pending the finalization of the recruitment process of the position vacated by Khumalo.
A call and appeal is hereby made that all employees and stakeholders to give the reconfigured management team their full support as they ensure sustainable service delivery to the citizens of Mbombela.
Council remains confident that, with the competent management tea, under the stewardship of Mr Khumalo, the city is set for even greater heights.
